The Overland Express train is a passenger train service that operated from San Francisco, California to New York City, New York in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The train was operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company and the New York Central Railroad Company. The service was inaugurated in 1887 and was considered one of the fastest and most luxurious trains in the world at that time. The Overland Express train had air-conditioned cars, dining cars, and sleeping cars, making it comfortable for passengers to make the long journey across the country. The trip would take around three days and crosses some of the most beautiful areas of the US, such as the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, and the Great Plains. In 1912, the Overland Express was replaced by another train service called "The Overland Limited," but the name "The Overland" is still frequently used in Amtrak services.
